Tsunami Fund Raiser |
The Tsunami fund raiser at the 147 Club raised over £260 with 3 competitions on Saturday afternoon. (26 March) 3 of the top players in the island took part, which included the legendary Gary Cook, island representative for the last 6 years Ady Bougourd and for the last 15 years Leigh Ruderham. Montys Angels from the second div and the 147 Club from the 1st div sent their entire teams to the event. The first event was the Scotch doubles out of the hat. This meant that nobody knew who they would be paired with and each player takes alternative shots. Gary Cook and young Glen Le Moignan reached the final where they beat Ady Bougourd and Ady Murphy in the best of 5 final. 3-1. Cook and Le Moingan took a 2-0 lead before Bougourd and Murphy pulled on back to give them a glimmer of hope, but to no avail. The speed pool was won by Bougourd in a superb time of 20.9 seconds. As it was a ball over each pocket and the black ball on its spot, it would not count as a legitimate speed pool record, but none the less, a very quick time indeed The semi final was great as young Ryan Shaw (11) beat Leigh Ruderham 3-0 with a frame start. Young Ryan who already has a sponsor (Brenwal Ltd) to his credit as such a young age will be a force to be reckoned with as last weekend he won a junior competition in Leeds and did not drop a single frame along the way. In the final he would face Bougourd as he beat Cook 3-2 after being 2-0 up. The final was all one way as even with a 1 frame handicap in the race to 3 Bougourd did not miss a shot and beat young Shaw 3-1. The winning £50 voucher from the Bank of Canada was very sportingly given by Bougourd to young Shaw after the final. The event was hosted by Langley Automatics, the 147 Club and Julio Moniz from the Office Pub
