Channel Island - Upton 2005 |
The third 8-Ball Pool Upton was the most one sided victory ever as the Guernsey team Gremlins destroyed Hot Cookies from Jersey. In fact they where very cold to say the least. The Jersey team consisted of Gary Cook, who has won more titles than any other Jersey man, Chris Melville, capped several times for the CI, Alan Humphreys who came up through the Juniors and has been at several international events, as has Karl Dix who at 18 has had a fair bit of international experience too. They where joined by Eric Luggar. For the Gremlins a very vastly experienced squad of players as they have all played at international level for the last 4 years. Adam Shorto with his vast snooker history has adapted well to the game of pool and will be at the top level for many years to come, CI skipper Andy Mildner, fresh from competing at the World Championships. as where ex island champion Tristane Ozanne, Mark Hancock who has been capped for both islands, and the legend of pool and snooker within Guernsey, Mick Le Nourey. The match was the best of 25 with all players playing each other. It was held at the Guernsey Bowl in conjunction with the presentation of the Captains Challenge Pool Leagues prize winners. There was at least 210 people attending the presentation and most of them stayed to watch the match. So it was pressure on the Jersey boys. The first session did not go their way as the Gremlins totally outplayed them to win it 4-1 as Shorto beat Melville, Hancock beat Cook, Mildner did likewise to Dix, Luggar got one for Hot Cookies as he defeated Le Nourey but Ozanne piled on the pressure as he took pout Humphreys. If the first session went bad for the Jersey players, session two was a nightmare as they where beaten 5-0 to trail 9-1. Mildner made it 10 as he outputted Melville. Cook gave the Hot Cookies a glimmer of hope as he beat Le Nourey but it was a short respite as back came the Gremlins as Ozanne had a great comeback against Dix to lead 11-2. The next two where shared as Luggar defeated Shorto (who potted the black and a yellow at the same time) and Hancock out potted Humphreys for the Gremlins to lead 12-3. The game was won in session three as both Ozanne and Le Nourey beat Cook and Melville respectively for the most one sided Upton in its 4 year history. |
