Junior Pool - Guernsey event

The Junior team event and the Insular was a clean sweep for the Guernsey boys. They have waited 6 years to get there hands on the trophy and not only did they not lose a game but there legs against where also very impressive. The team consisted of Jess De La Haye, Ashley Perrium, Shane Opie, Sam Bulmer and James Kirk. All of them with the exception of Bulmer have international experience.

The event was a 5 man team with Taunton, Jersey (2) and Guernsey (2) teams. It was played on a round robin basis with the Insular being played last.
Session 1 seen the Guernsey B team being defeated 10-5 by the Visiting Taunton side and the Jersey A team beating the B team by the same score 10-5. Ryan Shaw won all 3 of his games as did Andy Stentiford for the A team
Session 2 was the first game for Guernsey A and they beat the Jersey B side convincingly 12-3. De La Haye, Kirk both won 3 apiece. The Jersey A team beat Guernsey B 9-6 with Julian Moniz winning all three he played. The two B teams where next and this was a tight one with Guernsey edging it in the last frame 8-7 as James Le Gallez beat Lofta Loftsson.

Taunton on the other table where broasted 11-4 by the Guernsey A teamAshley Perrium beat Jake Osbourne, Domonic Manel and Mike Holly. Opie beat Holly, Andy Hughes and Matt Atesoy.

The Taunton team took revenge in the next session as they easily defeated the Jersey A team 9-6. On the other table the two Guernsey teams squared up and the A team totally overpowered the B team 13-2 Perrium, Bulmer and Opie all impressed.

Taunton who had arrived with high hopes of winning this tournament had to be contented with playing for second spot and they duly beat Guernsey B 10-5. The other table was between the 2 island A teams so the match was already just for the insular as far as the Jersey team was concerned with Guernsey unbeaten at the top of the table. It was just a race to 8 as the rest of the legs did not matter. Guernsey won session one 4-1 with Perrium beating Ben De Jesus, Stentiford levelling as he beat Kirk. Then 3 on the bounce for Guernsey as Bulmer beat Glen Le Moignan, Opie beat Shaw and De La Haye did likewise to Moniz. Session 2 was a bit tighter but it went to the Guernsey boys 3-2 which put them 7-3 ahead. Shaw pulled one back for Jersey as he beat Perrium, but it was all over in the next as Bulmer beat De Jesus.

The singles KO was a classic, with the Taunton boys featuring heavily. Jake Osbourne and Matt Atesoy raced through to the QF as Osbourne beat Joe Reaney 5-1 then James Kirk 5-1. Atesoy on the other part of the draw beat Leo Loftasson 5-0 and Sam Bulmer 5-1. Atesoy then beat Osbourne 5-2 to face Shane Opie in the semis. Opie had a titanic struggle to get through as he beat Dominic Manel 5-4, then Julian Moniz 5-3 and Ben De Jesus 5-2. The match between him and Atesoy was superb as Opie went 4-0 ahead. Back came Atesoy to win 5 on the bounce to steal his place in the Final.
