Captains Challenge Pool Leagues 2008 - 2009

The finals of the Jersey Pool Championships where incorporated into the Captains Challenge Pool Leagues finals night at Planet Pool & Snooker
The final of both singles events where held

A new champion for the JP is 22 years old Carl Dix He beat Ricardo Varella 5-4 in a very close encounter. Varella had the chance to pot the black in the final frame, which he did, but potted his opponents yellow in doing so. The final was nip and tuck all the way through Varella won the first two, but Dix levelled. They shared the next four with Dix never being in front. Until that final frame

There was a record entry of 47 players this year and along the way, Dix beat Jack Bocock, Steve Apperly, and Dane Jennings and in the semis he beat the experienced Leigh Ruderham
Varella beat Jorge Franco, Terry Carre, and Amandio Moinhos and in the semis he beat Michael Anfray

The Leagues singles was between Varellas brother Marco, and the very experienced Carlos Rodrigues. Marco took the opener with Rodrigues winning the next two.The next 4 where shared for Rodrigues to lead 4-3, and with Rodrigues winning the next, he had won his first major honour. He beat previous winner Amandio Moinhos 5-2 in the semis and Marco beat Chris Hamon 5-1 in the other semi

The ladies JP Champion is island player Christelle Le Flohic. She beat fellow island player Delia Browne in the final, and in the semis she beat Magda Sanuik. Browne beat Tracey Anfray in her semi.
For the first time there was a 9-Ball KO, and it was the hot favourite Ady Bougourd who won it,. He beat Michael Anfray 9-4 in the final, after beating Nigel Higginson in the semis. Anfray beat organiser Paul Bolton in the other semi

The Individual 9-Ball league final was also played on the night. 16 players had played in a round robin, with the top 8 playing off. Adam Inman was the winner, beating Stefan Craven 9-5 in the final
Also in the same format was the individual snooker league. The final was played over the best of 3 frames, and it was the manager of Planet Pool & Snooker, Andy Toland who beat Jamie De Caires 2-1 in the fnal
Shaw wins his hat trick in the Jersey Junior Championships.
Karl Hinds (16) secured his place in the final having beat International player Scott Crawford 4-2, Joe De Sousa 4-0 and last year’s runner up Chris Le Marquand 4-0.
Ryan Shaw (16) was due to play Owen Anderton in the first round, but he failed to show up. He then played Emanuel De Lemos beating him 4-1 before winning his semi- final match against his fellow International team mate Darren Du Feu by the same score line 4 -1.
The final followed, played over the best of 9 frames. Karl played some great pool, however, Ryan was too strong for him and won the match 5-2.
The doubles of the JP was won by Ady Bougourd and Matt Day, they easily beat Amandio Moihnos and Carlos De Freitas 3-0 in a very one sided affair, giving Bougourd his second title of the evening.
The team event in the  League was won by Escuda A as they outscored The Dogs 13-5 in the best of 25 final
Captain of the year award was given to Aarron Want from The Sweatys. They also won the first div this year, after finishing 2nd in the previous 2 years.
The last singles final of the night was between Andy Stentiford and Mick Cauvain in the Banks & Office Pool League being held in Planet Pool & Snooker over the last few months. The international experience of Stentiford, being the best ex junior to proceed to the men’s events was always going to be too strong for Cauvain, and he won it 5-1
