Phil Jones having played his first ever international venue and against other wheelchair users, which he has never before done, has progressed over the last two days and is in the wheelchair event final to be held 10:00am Malta time (09:00 UK time) There was an enquiry tonight as it seemed that Phil had missed his chance when he and his Association Chairman Trevor Kirk looked at the score notice board. Trevor went to see the officials who were still on the premises and in checking through with Tournament Officials a computer error was discovered and Phil was declared a finalist. Please note that the European Title is not being played for as the governing body decided that as only Malta and the Channel Islands had entered players it was not a proper European Championship. Nevertheless, Phil will be playing in the Wheelchair Final at the 2008 European Championships in Malta for a trophy (as of yet name unknown for trophy) and he will be doing this as the first ever wheelchair Channel Islander. We wish him good luck |
