Junior Surum Hotel event 2006 - report

The Juniors Team event at the Sarum Hotel was a great succes over the course of the weekend with 2 teams fron Somerset, 1 from Guernsey and 3 fron Jersey. The top 4 would play off after a round robin event. The inter insular also took place when the two A teams faced each other.

A doubles competition out of the hat was played on the friday evening, and players from all teams where put into the hat, so that the players could be drawn to play with members of other teams, said organisor Paul Bolton, it is a great way for to mix the players and frDane Jennings & Darren de Feu - doubles winnersienships are formed which last for years, which in my eyes is what it is all about. Although I can assure you they all take it seriously and want to win......The finalist where Darren De Fue and junior team Capt Dane Jennings both from jersey, they faced Chris Wynn and Aden Hodge who where both from Somerset.Jennings and De Fue beat Tom Le Page (G) and Zac McGuigan(J) 3-1,Joe Stewart and Lofta Loftsson (J)3-1 and then J Corkett(SW) and Miguel De Freitas 3-1 also. Wynnand Hodge took out Dominic mannell(SW) and Ashley perrium (G) 3-2, Josh Hinds (J) and Alex McAdam (J) 3-0, then faced jess De La haye (G) and Carl Hinds (J) 3-2

The final s first two frames where shared but then the jersey duo took control wih both De Fue and Jennings out potting their opponents to win 3-1

The team event was always going to have the 2 Somerset teams and the Guernsey and Jersey teams in the top four and that was how it panned out

The semis saw Jersey face SW 1 and fancied their chances after beating them 8-3 in the round robin. They lost the first session 3-2 as only Stentiord and Josh Hinds mustered a win, session two was a disadter and lost them thefinal spot as only Hinds won to trail 7-3, a mountain to climb and although hamon won the opener in session three it was allover as Stewart lost to Dominic mannel.

The other semi was Guernsey and Somerset 2. The Sarnians won the first session 3-2 as James Kirk, Ashley perrium and Jess de la haye all won,They emulated the Somerset A team as they too won session two 4-1 as Sam Bulmer, Tom Le Page,Perrium and De La Haye Guernsey A being presented with the runners up trophiesall won. Kirk won the all elusive 8th frame as he defeated Chris Wynn to win 8-3

The final was a very close affair and it was all level after 10 frames, Perrium ,Le Page,De La haye, Bulmer and Kirk all won one each,Unfortunately the only player to win in the final session was Perrium as they lost 8-6

31 players where in the singles and as always with the juniors it was classic poolThe final would be between Andy Stentiford from jersey and Ben Wynn from the Somerset team.

Stentiford had a hard route to the final as he beat young Zac McGuigan (J) 5-0 but then had a final frame decider against Matt Prosser (S) His QF was against Josh Corbett (S) but the semis was a classic as he faced the lad in top form, jess de la haye from Guernsey. The first 4 frames where shared then some mistakes from De la Haye let Stentiford in to win 5-2

Wynn in the other half of the draw beatLe Page (G) 5-1, Josh Hindes (J) 5-2, Stewart (J) 5-4 after being 4-1 up and Jersey capt Dane Jennings in the exact same senario.

Wynn had a total clearance in the opener but with a 6 ball finish, Stentiford drew level, He let Wynn in on the next frame and had chances in the 4th frame, but lost them both to trail 3-1, He levelled the match at 3-3 as a 7 ball dish and an easy black in the next. Unfortuna=tely another total in the next gave Wynn the lead and with a great black in the next he was crowned Junior singles champion
